Ally McCoist fumes at unbelievable Rangers gaffe as icon predicts game defining error BEFORE it happens
Stunned Ally McCoist was left gobsmacked by Rangers' kamikaze defending which cost them their place in the Europa League.
The Ibrox icon could not fathom the reckless approach to stopping Benfica on the counter attack as red-hot Rafa Silva eventually punished the hosts after breaching a haphazard offside trap in the the 66th minute. But McCoist's exasperation was compounded due to the fact he was already worried sick about Rangers going hell for leather from corners in the first half.
Rangers were willing to engage Benfica high up the pitch and leave no defenders deep. And it was the same bold approach which led to Silva running free with Mohammed Diomande playing him onside. And McCoist could barely contain his ire after the team he loves came apart at the seams.
A wounded McCoist - working in the commentary booth for TNT Sports – said: "Look at this, I find it incredible. He might be in his own half, you know, the defending from Rangers again I find, frankly, unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable from your own corner. Not once, twice, three or four times, it's amazing.
"It cuts across Diomande, gives Butland the eyes and uses his pace. Silva gives himself a better angle but Rangers' defending from their own corner, incredible."
