'All nonsense' - Pundit takes aim at Sir Dave Brailsford amid imminent Manchester United arrival

Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has claimed Sir Dave Brailsford is nothing more than an 'imposter' and Manchester United should not be fooled by his expertise.

Brailsford is set to join United's boardroom officially in the next six to eight weeks, once Sir Jim Ratcliffe's minority acquisition of the club is ratified by the Premier League. INEOS' director of sport is held in high regard in sport thanks to his work in cycling.

The Derbyshire born sports science supremo created the 'marginal gains' theory which emphasised how small changes can make massive improvements. This school of thought led to great success with Team Sky, Team GB and latterly Team INEOS.

Now, Brailsford is likely to turn his hand to improving United but speaking on talkSPORT, Saunders attempted to discredit Brailsford. He told Jamie O'Hara: "In football, you know what to eat, and the determination comes from your stomach and your head. How determined are you? That gets you a seven out of ten every week?

"You can get as many laptops out as you like - and heart rate monitors - I've done it all! We've had sports psychologists. It's all nonsense!"

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chesterfield manager added: "It's about a footballer, what's inside your stomach, and what's inside your head that makes you a top player. What you eat, you can add a little bit. The manager's tactics, that adds a little bit to it.

"But don't get hoodwinked by all these imposters in football, because if all the money was in rugby, they'd be in rugby! They crawl in through the doors and edge their way into the club, and earn £300,000 a year
