Paul Scholes names the one Manchester United player who can take Rasmus Hojlund to the next level

Paul Scholes believes Christian Eriksen holds the key to maintaining Rasmus Hojlund’s form in front of goal.

Jubilant scenes erupted around Old Trafford when the 20-year-old bagged his first Premier League goal to complete a memorable comeback against Aston Villa. Champions League goals were easy to come by for Hojlund, with his five strikes placing him joint top of the scoring charts.

But failing to score in the league in 14 appearances raised questions about whether the Dane was worth the hefty £72million fee. His compatriot Eriksen started a top-flight game for the first time since November 4 and played the entire 90 minutes as United came from behind to beat Villa 3-2.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, club legend Scholes backed the midfielder to give Hojlund the service needed to continue his goalscoring streak. “(I’m) so happy for the lad," he said. "It’s been a tough start to his Premier League career. Hopefully, he can get up and running and score the goals he deserves to score.

“Christian Eriksen being in the team will help. He makes a big difference. I don’t think he was especially brilliant tonight. But he is the player that, when they get the ball, (Bruno) Fernandes as well, they know that if this boy makes the right run it will come.”
