Alex Albon targeting Singapore return after appendicitis

Alex Albon has taken to social media to give an update on his health and confirm that he is eyeing a return to the car straight away at the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Williams driver did not have the weekend that he was hoping for at Monza last time out, with him coming down with appendicitis on Saturday morning and therefore needing the required surgery to remove his appendix.

Indeed, Nyck de Vries was asked to stand in for the Thai/British driver for the rest of the Italian Grand Prix weekend and the Dutchman did a fine job, boosting his own chances of potentially partnering Albon within the team in 2023.

On Saturday lunchtime, then, Albon had the surgery and it was a complete success, but there was then post-operative complications relating to the anaesthetic that meant the former Red Bull man suffered respiratory failure.

He was put into an intensive care unit to be monitored and looked after, and thankfully made quick progress over the weekend to be put back into a general ward at the start of last week.

After extra monitoring, he was cleared to leave the hospital, and Italy, and he headed back to Monaco where he lives.

It’s been a week of recuperating for Albon, then, but it’s great to see that he seems to be in high spirits and eyeing a return to the cockpit for the next round of the championship in Singapore.

With the humidity and different time zones it will be a difficult race, of course, but Albon is a racing driver and it’s clear he’s ready to take on the challenge after being through the mill last weekend.

Taking to Twitter, Albon posted this video:
