Alex Albon continuing appendicitis recovery at home after hospital release

Alex Albon was released from hospital on Tuesday after suffering complications following successful surgery to remove his appendix.

The Thai/British driver woke up feeling unwell on Saturday morning at the Italian Grand Prix and a matter of hours later his Williams team had confirmed that he was suffering from appendicitis and that Nyck de Vries would be standing in for him for the rest of the weekend at Monza.

Indeed, Albon would have surgery on the issue and the operation was a success, but he would then suffer complications relating to the anaesthetic which caused him to have respiratory failure.

He was moved to an intensive care ward where he could be monitored and thankfully made good progress quickly, with him out of intensive care by Sunday and moved onto a general ward in the hospital.

In even better news, he was released from hospital yesterday and returned home to Monaco to continue his recovery, with it hopefully now the case that he is very much over the worst of the ordeal.

The plan would appear, then, that he is going to return to the driving seat at the next Grand Prix in Singapore, which takes place on October 2nd, with a little gap between Monza and then to allow him to really recover and get himself ready for the final few races, which sees the F1 circus head all over the globe.

It’s been an eventful first year for Alex at Williams, and one that he will be relatively pleased with.

A crash at Silverstone at the first corner saw him needing medical treatment and so he has certainly been through the wars this season, but it’s great to hear that he is on the mend now back at home after Monza and he’ll be itching to get back racing in Singapore at the start of October.
