Alejandro Garnacho could follow in Marcus Rashford footsteps at Manchester United with squad numbers

Manchester United weighed up handing their iconic number seven shirt to Alejandro Garnacho but instead handed it to Mason Mount. MEN Sport understands the manager's decision to offer the number to the midfielder shows how much he is already valued and how important his role is going to be in the side following his initial £55million transfer.

It was anticipated Mount might take the number 19 he has worn for club and country previously. Raphael Vatane asked for number four upon his arrival at Old Trafford, Phil Jones refused, but the Frenchman now has the chance to upgrade.
