Aldi announces major change to its beer and cider sold in stores
Aldi has announced a major packaging change to all of its beer and cider products.
In an attempt to improve its environmental commitments, the budget supermarket chain said it will remove all plastic packaging from its own-label four-pack beers and ciders. The company said the move will help reduce plastic waste.
Instead, packaging will instead be fully recyclable at home, with Aldi saying the move could remove 95 tonnes of plastic packaging per year. It comes after the company made similar environmental pledges such as making its own-label handwash packaging fully recyclable in May while also removing its single-use cutlery from the Food To Go range in September.

Luke Emery, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: “Minimising plastic waste is important to both Aldi and our customers, and we are always looking for ways to adapt our packaging. Moving our beer and cider to card packaging is another step in our fight against unwanted plastic.”
Aldi has previously affirmed its commitment to the environment by focusing on three key points: tackling climate change, "boosting" its energy efficiency, and reducing its waste. When it comes to plastic packaging, it aims for all branded products to be 100 per cent reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.
Its website states: "Plastic packaging plays an important role in protecting products from damage, making sure that they can be transported easily, and helps reduce waste by preserving food for longer. However, we are aware of the negative impact that plastic has on the environment,
