Anthony Gordon fired Scotland reality check by Scott Brown as Steve Clarke warned of major dilemma over Newcastle star

Former Scotland captain Scott Brown has told Anthony Gordon he would have to FIGHT for his place in Steve Clarke's squad should he switch allegiances from England.

The winger is on Clarke’s radar with the 22-year-old one of four Newcastle United stars who could make the switch along with Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento with Euro 2024 looming. While the Scotland boss is fine-tuning his squad and picking who will be on the flight to Germany, Gareth Southgate has also reportedly made his own private pitch to Gordon.

And before any decisions are made, Celtic legend Brown has warned Gordon and his teammate Livramento that they wouldn't walk into the starting line-up should they make the call to join the Tartan Army's party next summer. And the former Fleetwood Town boss reckons that it could disrupt the unity that Clarke has built within the international set-up during his tenure.

Speaking to, Brown said: "If Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento get the opportunity to switch allegiances from England to Scotland, by all means come and try to fight your way into the squad. However, it would be a hard decision for Steve Clarke as well if they want to come and try and be a part of Scotland instead of England.

"They’ve got to understand that the current group of players got Scotland to Germany and to Euro 2024, so Steve needs to make sure that those players are given the opportunity to play for Scotland as well too. It’s a difficult one because you want to be working with the best possible squad that you can, and Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento are both fantastic players.

"But we also don’t know if they definitely want to switch from England to Scotland yet. As it stands, it’s all hearsay at
