Albion Rovers v Bonnyrigg Rose: Reid targets clean sweep in bottom of the table crunch clash

Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid says their thumping win over League Two leaders Dumbarton last week has made a big statement as they look for a clean sweep over fellow relegation-threatened side Bonnyrigg Rose.

The Cliftonhill club are in a real scrap to avoid finishing at the foot of the pile and falling into the dreaded pyramid play-off with the winners of the Highland/Lowland League showdown at the end of the season.

Bonnyrigg are two points behind second bottom Rovers after Reid’s side lost 1-0 to 10-man Stranraer on Tuesday night.

But going into Saturday’s visit from Rose, Reid reckons last week’s thumping 5-1 win away to Sons sent a message to the rest of the league.

Reid, who has come out on top in the three previous meetings with Rose this season, said: “In the league, I don’t think Dumbarton have been beaten 5-1 this season and I don’t think they’ve conceded that many goals.

“So it’s a big three points and it is making a statement but we need to gather ourselves for more big games.

“We can’t worry about anyone else, keep worrying about ourselves and hopefully stay clear of injuries as much as we can.

“We’ve got a good record against Bonnyrigg this season. We’ve beaten them three times this season.

“I don’t know what it is, but you always seem to have that in seasons, where you do well against particular teams and not so well against others.

“Hopefully we can make it a clean sweep on Saturday but we will certainly not underestimate Bonnyrigg or anyone.”

There is just seven games remaining for Rovers to steer themselves clear of the foot of the table and rivals Elgin and Stranraer could be brought right into it as well.

Reid added: “Every game is a cup final for every team now because everyone has something to play
