Albion Rovers boss secures five stars on new deals

Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark snapped up five players on contract extension last week and admits that will be him until the summer.

With The Wee Rovers’ season almost at an end and neither pushing for promotion or trying to avoid relegation, Clark has been hard at work putting plans in place for the 2024/25 campaign as the club seek to get out of the fifth tier and back to the SPFL.

Last week, midfielders Alex McCaw, Barry Duncan and Josh Tran all penned new deals at Cliftonhill alongside defenders Adam Fernie and Bright Prince, committing to the club for next season.

And they join goalkeeper Ross Connelly who signed an extension last month.

But Clark says that will be him for now as he focuses on ending this season on a high across the final four games, which starts tonight [Wednesday] away to Tranent.

He said: “That should be it for the moment in terms of players signing for next season.

“But I know what I am looking for next season.

“Some players are at other clubs but, under freedom of contract, can start looking elsewhere now, the same way people will be looking at some of our players who are out of contract at the end of the season.

“It is a situation where we are trying to be a step ahead of the game for next season.

“We’re really pleased to get the guys on board again for next season and we’ll keep talking to other players.”

On the test facing them at Tranent, he added: “Tranent are one of the teams in the league with a big budget and they have used it wisely.

“They have got really experienced, good players at this level so going there will be a challenge for us.

“But I’ve said I want to win all four games and we will be giving it our best shot to finish the season on a high.”
