Albion Rovers boss: Cut out sloppy errors or we'll face SPFL survival play-off

Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark has told his side they must cut out mistakes if they are to have a chance of avoiding the League Two play-off slot.

Rovers remained bottom of the pile on Saturday as third-placed Annan romped to a 4-0 win at Galabank, with doubles from Adam Smith and Dominic Docherty in each half.

Rovers had the added misery of Luke Graham being shown a straight red card with 12 minutes left for foul and abusive language, which also annoyed Clark.

But he is confident they can regain the form they showed to beat Elgin City 3-0 a fortnight ago when sixth-placed Stenhousemuir visit Cliftonhill this weekend, one of their three remaining games.

Clark said: “We’ve got to get wins on the board, and if we do as well as we did last week against Elgin and even take away the mistakes from Saturday, we’ll have a chance in all three games.

“Stirling Albion, I’m pretty certain will have won the league by the time we play them, but the other two, Stenhousemuir and East Fife [who thrashed Stranraer 8-0 on Saturday], are teams that are trying to get into the top four and get promotion, so they have a lot to play for as well.

“We know they’re going to be really difficult games, and we’re going to have to earn the points if we’re going to get them.

“We know we’re in for a battle.

“But the performance last week to beat Elgin – who have since gone on to pick up four points – shows what a good performance that was.

“The inconsistency that is there is the reason we’re in the position we’re in, but it is still in our own hands.

“I know we’re good enough to beat teams, so there’s a lot of positivity about the whole thing, and I’m pretty certain that we can get there okay.”
