Alan Shearer tells Erik ten Hag he'll talk about Man United 'whether he likes it or not'

Alan Shearer has told Erik ten Hag the only way to truly silence the doubters is for Manchester United to maintain their winning ways.

Questions about Ten Hag's future have reemerged of late after United made their worst start to a Premier League campaign. That comes after their lowest-ever finish in the table last season.

Their FA Cup triumph earned him a one-year contract extension, but the credit is his bank was depleted by accumulating just eight points after seven matches. Saturday's 2-1 victory over Brentford was therefore a timely triumph.

Shearer has been one of the pundits who have been vocal in their criticism of Ten Hag. After United moved up to 11th over the weekend, he praised their performance at Old Trafford but warned it's only a baby step.

Shearer, who memorably probed Ten Hag in a tense interview after the FA Cup final win in May, said on The Rest Is Football podcast: "They did really, really well yesterday, but you've got to keep that up.

"Otherwise, we're gonna keep talking about him and his future and whether he's gonna be the Man United manager - or whether he agrees or disagrees with our opinion.

"They are one of, if not the biggest football club in the world, and when they are sat in 14th position in the Premier League, then whether he likes it or not, we're all gonna talk about it."

Ten Hag fired back at Shearer earlier this season after he called for more from Marcus Rashford. Following the 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool, the Dutchman fumed: "Everyone gets criticism from you guys.
