Erik ten Hag handed further Man United headache as Antony injury 'update' emerge

Manchester United have reportedly been handed the worst-case scenario to Antony's injury after the 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The Brazilian was spotted leaving the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on crutches after making a brief cameo by replacing Marcus Rashford. Speaking after the match, Erik ten Hag said: "It's really unlucky for him.

"I feel real compassion for him, when he worked so hard in training. His training performances are that good that he deserved to come on. When you have to come off so quickly, that is really sad to see. Hopefully, it’s not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for what the assessment is."

Now, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, tests have confirmed that the winger has sprained his ankle. However, United are yet to confirm the extent of his injury, though he's likely to miss Sunday's match against West Ham.

The 24-year-old struggles continue at Old Trafford, having failed to cement a regular spot in Ten Hag's team with his sole starting appearance coming in the 7-0 Carabao Cup win against Barnsley last month. The United manager has previously urged Antony to 'earn the right to play.'

Antony now joins Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Toby Collyer in the treatment room. With that said, United will look to seal back-to-back wins against Julen Lopetegui's side after their 2-1 comeback against Brentford at Old Trafford last weekend.
