Alan Shearer spots what Jamie Vardy did to 'embarrassing' Watford stars in Leicester City romp

Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer and Jermaine Jenas have highlighted Jamie Vardy’s role in taking advantage of some slack defending from Watford in the Premier League encounter at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

Leicester City came out as 5-1 winners over the Hornets despite going 1-0 down within the first six minutes. Goals from James Maddison, Jamie Vardy (x2) and Harvey Barnes (x2) ensured that City picked up their second win of the week and moved up to ninth position in the Premier League table.

Vardy’s brace was his second in just four days, after the City striker returned to the scoresheet in Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over Norwich. Following his fourth goal in two games, he was picked out by the pundits who were also critical of the ‘embarassing’ Watford defending.

"First of all we have to say well done to Leicester because they responded really well and put in a really good performance and made it very difficult for Watford,” Shearer said on Match of the Day 2. “But some of the defending from Watford was just comical.

"I mean, if you did not know better you would think it was Dog and Duck defending and I apologise for the Dog and Duck because it was that bad at times. Honestly, when the fans are looking at this and the players are this evening some of the mistakes are just incredible.

"The number of times they gave the ball away, the goalkeeper is coming out and the defenders haven't got a clue what was going on. It really was embarrassing."

Fellow pundit Jenas was of the same opinion, but pointed out a role Vardy played in City’s third goal of the game. Harvey Barnes put City in total command just 17 seconds into the second half when he headed in Marc Albrighton's cross.
