Alan Shearer sets Man City star Erling Haaland astonishing goal challenge

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has challenged Manchester City star Erling Haaland to break the 60-goal barrier this season.

Haaland stole the show against RB Leipzig in midweek as his five goals helped City to a 7-0 victory in the Champions League. Those thinking that the Norwegian would slow down in the FA Cup against Burnley were mistaken.

Another hat-trick for the 22-year-old moved Haaland onto a whopping 42 goals for the season. Should he not score between now and the end of the campaign, the striker will have enjoyed a record-breaking season, however, Shearer is pushing for more.

Speaking during the BBC's match coverage at the Etihad, the former England international set Haaland a staggering target. He said: "He lives for goals.

"Some players might say, 'I wanna get 20 goals a season'. He wants 30, 40, 50 - he might even get 60 goals this season.

"I mean, it's bonkers. As I said, some are happy with that, some are not. The greatest and best want more and more and more. They're never satisfied because that feeling of scoring a goal, there's nothing like it."

Discussing his performance after the game, Haaland expressed his delight at City's cup progression. He said: "It's been a good couple of games – important games.

"7-0 and 6-0 before the national team break is impressive. I'm really happy. Every goal for the team means a lot. It's an amazing win against a really good Burnley side.

"I'm really happy and our next game is at Wembley. I think we're in the part of the season where we should be at our best.
