Alan Burrows names the Aberdeen FC theory he 'doesn't buy' as Pittodrie chief targets silverware

Alan Burrows insists that Aberdeen fans aren't living in the past - and that they should be demanding silverware soon with a League Cup semi-final to contend with.

It's been nine years since the Dons last tasted success with their 2013-14 League Cup win, and you'd have to go back to 1996 for the cup win prior to that. Of course, the majority of their success came in the 1980's under Sir Alex Ferguson and times haven't been easy at Pittodrie since despite being the only other club outside of the Old Firm not to have been relegated since the 1970's.

But with Burrows taking over as CEO over the past 12 months, the Pittodrie outfit have already seen a European journey take its course, and being in the semi-finals of the League Cup, there is a real chance to win their first trophy in a decade with Celtic out of the reckoning. And Burrows has dispelled the myth that Dons fans are stuck in the past as he aims to take the club through to a new era of success.

Burrows told the Press and Journal: "I don’t buy into the concept that Aberdeen fans are stuck in the past. Sure, the history [including three league championships and two European titles under Ferguson from 1979 to 1986] influences us as a club, but I think the expectations of Dons supporters are realistic.

“As far as I can see, they want to have a team which is challenging at the top end of the table [in the SPFL], which gets to the latter stages of cup competitions – semi-finals and finals – and dares to dream of winning silverware at Hampden. And they expect the team to be trying to perform in European tournaments and be competitive there.
