Ajax manager provides Antony update amid Manchester United interest

Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has provided an injury update on Manchester United target Antony.

The 22-year-old has been missing from action since April having been stretchered off in Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Bolivia. Ajax had previously hoped that the injury was not as bad as first feared, however a scan showed that damage to his right ankle was 'more serious than initially thought'.

With pre-season just around the corner, Schreuder — who replaced Erik ten Hag in the Dutch capital — has spoken to ESPN via VI about Antony's current condition, amid United's ongoing interest. "He is still recovering from his injury," he explained.

"But I think the next few weeks are important. For his injury, we hope it improves quickly.

"I assume that he will be fit at the end of the preparation." Schreuder added that Antony is back in Amsterdam recovering from his injury.

United have targeted Antony this summer after the Brazilian became one of Ten Hag's key players at Ajax. Last season the right winger scored 12 goals and notched 10 assists in 32 matches.
