Ajax ‘reject fresh Manchester United offer for Antony' and more transfer rumours

Ajax have reportedly turned down a second offer from Manchester United for winger Antony.

The attacker was left out of the club’s 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday and manager Alfred Schreuder confirmed on Thursday that the player was not training with the first team.

Reports suggest the Brazilian is ‘on strike’ although Schrueder explained that he doesn’t expect him to leave, telling media: "I am assuming Antony will stay at Ajax. He has a contract at Ajax."

The Manchester Evening News reported earlier that an offer that could rise up to £85m was expected to be tabled to Ajax imminently. Now De Telegraaf, reports that this second bid has been immediately rebuffed by the Dutch champions.

It appears those reports are correct after Antony hit out at Ajax for rejecting an offer from an unnamed club in an interview with Fabrizio Romano on Friday.

It is claimed that an up-front fee of £76m had been offered but this was below the price Ajax value the winger at. Schreuder has repeatedly underlined that he does not want any more players to leave the club after already losing Ryan Gravenberch to Bayern Munich, Sebastian Haller to Borussia Dortmund and Lisandro Martinez to United.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs says Napoli is not a transfer destination Cristiano Ronaldo is keen on. The superstar’s future at United is unclear after handing in a request to leave earlier in the summer.

However, Jacobs claims that the prospect of the 37-year-old’s arrival is not appealing and that the player himself isn’t fond of a potential switch despite the offer of Champions League football.
