Ajax defender Jurrien Timber attracting interest after Manchester United transfer consideration

Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is attracting interest and the player has admitted a summer move away is likely. Timber was considered at Manchester United last summer and it's possible Erik ten Hag could reignite his interest in the player.

United agreed a fee of £46.8million, rising to £55.3m, with Ajax for Lisandro Martinez last year and that halted a move for Timber, although the player is still admired at Old Trafford after a stint working with Ten Hag in Amsterdam.

Timber, 21, can play at centre-back and right-back and he's hopeful a move from Ajax will be green-lit at the end of the season.

He recently discussed his future with Telegraaf and he admitted that a summer transfer away is looking increasingly likely.

"A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak," Timber said. "There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax. Last year Ajax asked me to stay for at least one more season and to extend my contract.

"After the season we will review the situation. At the Dutch national team, I often talk to boys who play football abroad. I want to take that step someday. But when that is, you will eventually hear and it will happen in consultation with Ajax.

"I'm still here anyway and I'm in no hurry. The focus is now on the cup final and the remainder of the competition."

United currently have Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire at centre-back, which means a sale from that department would have to happen for the club to consider an approach for Timber.

Maguire has made just seven league starts this season and he could look to leave in search of regular minutes.
