Airdrie hero joins Raith Rovers as he links up with old boss

Callum Smith has left Airdrieonians to sign a two-year deal at Raith Rovers, which sees him link up with former Diamonds boss Ian Murray.

Striker Smith helped Airdrie reach the Championship last month when he was part of the side who defeated his former old side Hamilton Accies on penalties in the play-off final.

And the 23-year-old will now come up against his old club next season after penning a two-year deal with the Kirkcaldy club.

Smith scored 13 goals in 45 appearances for the Diamonds last term and also celebrated making 100 outings for the club earlier in the season, having also enjoyed a loan spell at the club in the 2019/20 season.

Smith, who hails from Cowdenbeath, said: "I'm delighted to be here and I can't wait to get started. It's genuinely 10 minutes along the road for me and it is ideal for me.

"It is so close to home and as soon as I saw it was two-year I couldn't wait to sign it.

"I've got a young family and it is perfect for them to come and watch the games. Everything was advantage coming here and it was something I couldn't turn down."

Ian Murray told the Raith website: "I'm really happy Callum has decided to sign for Raith Rovers.

"He's a player I know well, and I've watched him improve every season. I look forward to working with him again."
