Hamilton Accies boss says "a few" more signings will be announced as summer rebuild continues

John Rankin says Hamilton Accies will announce “a few” more new signings, and the club is still working hard to build a squad that is capable of targeting the League One title next season.

The New Douglas Park gaffer says it’s important that his signings are permanent players that will stick around on contracts, and Hearts winger Connor Smith is unlikely to return to the club.

But Hamilton have moved quickly to snap up defenders Lee Kilday, Jackson Longridge and wing-back Stephen Hendrie, midfielder Jamie Barjonas, winger Euan Henderson and striker Kevin O’Hara – with many more to follow.

Rankin said: “There will be, over the next few weeks, more coming in.

“We’ve already spoken to a few players now, we’ve really pinpointed what we want and what we want to go after, and we’re waiting on either them leaving home or maybe deciding to take us as an option, rather than going somewhere else.

“I’m happy with what we’ve done so far. We’ve worked hard at it, we identified a lot of the signings pre-January transfer window.

“We knew what was going to be coming up in the summer, we had done a lot of work with regards to that, and it was a case of trying to get them, speak to them early, and see where we can go.

“Over the period of a few weeks we had spoken to them, outlined our plans, where we saw them being part of it, and making them sure they want to be a part of that.

“Then we go to work and, to be fair, we’ve been sitting on some of them for three or four weeks.”

Rankin added: “In Lee’s case, we spoke to him before the play-offs had even finished, so we had pre-planned what we were trying to do.

“We identified last season that we didn’t score enough goals, and we’re trying to get enforcements.
