Airdrie have a big week ahead, so Queen's Park draw wasn't bad, says star

Mason Hancock admits Airdrie have a big week ahead in their bid to nab a Premiership play-off spot, and says the 1-1 draw at home to Queen’s Park on Saturday was a decent point.

Hancock, 21, climbed off the bench in 61 minutes and had levelled Dom Thomas’ opener two minutes later, going on a run before smashing an unstoppable shot past Spiders keeper Calum Ferrie.

That kept Airdrie in sixth place, just behind Dunfermline on goal difference, who they were due to visit last night (Tuesday), before making the trek north to face second-bottom Inverness.

Former Aberdeen and Arbroath defender Hancock said: “We looked at the next few fixtures a few weeks ago, and we see it as an opportunity to pick up points and get back to where we belong in the table.

“It’s two massive games. We haven’t beat Dunfermline yet this season, so we’re looking to go there and we feel as though we owe them one.

“Inverness, we know what they’re going to be like and it’s a hard place to go to.

“It’s two teams we know very well in a week.”

Hancock took just two minutes to get on the score-sheet on Saturday and says it’s a good point for both sides.

He said: “That’s only my second goal of my career.

“I got the ball in our own half and was shown inside, which is a bit different for me, because I like to get down the line.

“But this time I came inside, one touch turned into two, two turned into three, and someone behind me shouted ‘shoot’, and you don’t have to tell me twice!

“Luckily, I’m glad it found the net.

“You come on as a sub to make an impact, and sometimes it takes 10 or 20 minutes, but it only took me two.

“It’s great for the team. I thought everyone who came on made a difference and brought legs to the side, which we needed.
