Airdrie draw at Inverness was a decent point, says Diamonds skipper

Adam Frizzell reckons Airdrie took a decent point on the road with a 0-0 at Inverness on Saturday, but was left wondering what could have been.

The stalemate in the Highlands left the Diamonds fifth in the Championship table, and Frizzell knows a win over Duncan Ferguson’s men would have seen them overtake Morton by two points in the final play-off slot.

But the former Killie midfielder pointed out that Airdrie have taken seven from nine available points in their last three away trips to Inverness, Dunfermline and Dundee United.

He said: “I think it was a good point in the end. I thought they were decent, on a tough pitch, and we didn’t play to our best, so I would put that down to being a good point on the road.

“The disappointing thing is that we could have leap-frogged Morton, but it keeps the run going, building that momentum again, going into the cup final in a few weeks, and the business en d of the season.

“That’s three clean sheets and seven points out of nine [in away games] and three very difficult away games in the last two weeks, so it’s definitely a success, I’d say.”

There weren’t loads of chances at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, but Nikolay Todorov saw a cross booted clear in 11 minutes, before Callum Fordyce’s shot was blocked by a ruck of players.

Keeper Josh Rae did well to block Cameron Harper’s path to goal just after the half-hour.

Todorov was denied the opener by an offside flag, while at the other end Rae got down well to save a Billy Mckay effort in stoppage time.

Kanayo Megwa headed Mckay’s header off the line from a corner early in the second half, while Charlie Telfer was agonisingly close to connecting with sub Calum Gallagher’s cross.
