Aiden McGeady in Hibs injury hammer blow as winger is ruled out for up to six months

Aiden McGeady is out for the rest of the season in a blow for Hibs manager Lee Johnson.

The winger arrived back in Scotland for the first time since leaving Celtic last summer after time at Sunderland, where he worked with the current Easter Road boss. But he has been plagued by injury problems since coming back into the Premiership fold, firstly missing every league game prior to the World Cup after an ankle issue on Viaplay Cup duty.

He then suffered a hamstring issue in a recent win against Kilmarnock and was set to undergo further scans to get to the bottom of the problem. It has been deemed severe enough to end his term and the 36-year-old - who turns 37 in May - now faces another extended period in the treatment room. Overall, McGeady has played 14 times this term with two assists to his name.

Already, winger Martin Boyle is out for the campaign with a knee injury. Harry McKirdy was also ruled out for four-six weeks with an ankle problem in early February.

Johnson said: “Geads will be seeing another specialist shortly and that will determine whether or not he needs surgery. “He will be out for a minimum of four months.

"Potentially six months. It’s really disappointing for us and really disappointing for him, but it’s our job to nurse him back to full fitness.”
