AEW: Backstage talk on AEW plans for current free agent

It seems as though AEW have a huge interest in one of the biggest free agents in professional wrestling.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW has been in talks with former WWE star Buddy Murphy, now known as Buddy Matthews. Reports state that AEW has been interested in Matthews since his non-compete clause expired in September.

Dave Meltzer discussed the possible plans of where Matthews would fit within the current storylines taking place and it seems the most likely route will be for him to join the House Of Black.

“On the show tonight Malakai and Brody did hint about a third guy and I did hear some talk that Matthews could be the third guy”

It would be quite fitting as Matthews and Black have a long history in WWE where the two were predominantly foes within storylines.

If Meltzer’s reports turn out to be true the inclusion of Matthews in The House Of Black could give a new sinister edge to Matthews.

In the promo Malakai revealed a card and talked about a “mystery”. This “mystery” could be a translation for a “secret” and what better secret than “the Best Kept Secret”.

Since his non-compete clause expired, Matthew’s most famous appearance was for NJPW when he went toe-to-toe with none other than Kazuchika Okada and took him to the limit. Even though he came up short he proved he can hang in the main event picture.

Another notable point is that Matthews wrestled Black at an Indy event on the 27th November 2021 at WrestleCade Supershow Revenge, where Malakai Black was the victor. Matthews and Black’s history could tie into a mutual respect between the two.

We will have to wait and see what happens in the near future of AEW until we find out the latest revelation in terms of the House Of Black.
