'Absolute tripe', 'Daft' - Danny Mills baffled by what he's now heard from Leeds before Man City

Danny Mills has been left baffled by a claim from Jesse Marsch as Leeds United take on Manchester City at home in the Premier League this evening.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match, Marsch claimed that he does not have the ‘energy‘ to think about the league table or how other clubs are doing.

His team are only five points clear of the relegation zone ahead of their game at Elland Road against the reigning champions, and so there will still be fears that they could go down.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Whites defender Mills was baffled when Marsch’s claim, and thinks that he does actually look at the table:

“Of course he will look.

“Just like when every single player says they don’t look at the papers or social media or the league table or the next two or three games.

“It’s absolute tripe. If you’re down there and you play at 3 o’clock the first thing you do after winning a game is ask ‘How did everyone else get on?’ It’s the first question you ask.

“It’s a media spin to say ‘We take one game at a time’. No, you don’t, that’s also nonsense.

“Especially as a manger you’re looking ahead because you’re looking at fitness levels and who you’ve got coming up. If you’re not looking ahead you’re daft.

“It’s pure media spin. You are looking at what others are doing because when they do you’re all going ‘Yes, get in. That gives us a bit of breathing space’.”

There is no doubt that Marsch and his players are checking the league table each game-week to see where they are, so that they can best prepare themselves to approach the next match.

They will certainly be looking to see how Everton get on against Chelsea, and Burnley against Watford, while they may also have one eye on how Aston Villa do
