'Absolute joke!' - Man United fans make same Man City point after VAR disallows goal vs Burnley

Manchester United supporters have highlighted the inconsistency of VAR after Jonny Evans was denied a fairytale return goal against Burnley.

The defender - starting his first United game since 2015 - headed the ball home on 25 minutes but video replays showed Rasmus Hojlund was in the way of Clarets goalkeeper James Trafford.

Reds fans have compared the incident to the controversial goal allowed by VAR when Nathan Ake headed home for Manchester City against Fulham earlier this month. Manuel Akanji was deemed not to be in the eye-line of Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno despite standing in line with the ball.

Fulham players were furious about the decision to allow the goal, with even Erling Haaland admitting post-match that he thought the decision was wrong and that he would have been ‘fuming’.

PGMOL head Howard Webb later admitted that the officials got the decision wrong on the day. United fans are aggrieved that VAR is lacking consistency amid Evans’ ruled-out header. Many on social media aired their views and compared the incident to that of Ake's goal against Fulham.

@TrevorEvans77: Such inconsistency in regards to VAR. I guess if you wear light blue it’s ok but everyone else a big no.

@thestretford3nd: How can that be offside when Hojlund literally doesn't make any action towards the ball after Evans heads it and the keeper pushed Hojlund out of the way with no regard for saving the ball. No Burnley player called for offside. VAR IS A DISGRACE!

@Alisdair_0204: That's an absolute joke. Evans was so close to the goal and the gk could see everything.
