Aberdeen FC transfer state of play on McGrath, Gueye and Jensen as £1m Pittodrie signing spree plotted

Aberdeen are closing in on Jamie McGrath ahead of their Europa League opener and are also set to splash the cash on Richard Jensen and Pape Habib Gueye.

The Dons will have Republic of Ireland cap McGrath registered and on-board before they take-off for their play-off first-leg in Gothenburg. McGrath was a free agent after terminating his contract at Wigan Athletic earlier in the summer. The Dons have also agreed to pay combined fees of nearly £1 million to land Finnish international Jensen and Senegal under-20 forward Gueye.

Central defender Jensen, 27, comes in from Polish side Gornik Zabrze and Gueye, 23, from Belgian outfit KV Kortrijk. Both deals are subject to work permit and visas being issued, with the Finnish international's paperwork at a more advanced stage. It remains to be seen if either or both those deals can be completed before tonight’s 11pm European deadline. Aberdeen will be looking for McGrath, who spent last season on-loan at Dundee United, to hit the heights he showed at St Mirren. Jensen, who has nine caps, will solve Robson’s left-sided central defensive issue. He has had spells at Jon Twente, Twente and Roda JC before he moved to Poland last year.

Gueye will add an extra striking option and something different to Duk, Bojan Miovski and Ester Sokler. He previously played in the Norwegian second tier
