A level results day 2023 LIVE as students across Greater Manchester receive grades

Thousands of students across Greater Manchester are finding out their A-level grades today.

Results day is the all-important date for many, as thousands of young people will learn if they've secured a place at their chosen university. Btec results are also announced today (August 15).

Pupils across the country will all be waking up nervously this morning, with those who miss out on their top university choice going through clearing. That's why we have put together guides on how it's best to have some success in the clearing process.

Vivienne Stern, chief executive of Universities UK (UUK), advised students to do some 'preparation' ahead of A-level results day to ensure they know how to use clearing in case they need to find an alternative university place.

She told the PA news agency: "For most students you’re going to get your first or insurance offer, but it’s a good idea to have a back-up plan."

A rising number of 18-year-olds in the population has made the university admissions system 'competitive' this year and this trend is expected to continue in the years to come, Ms Stern said.
