7 mischievous Rangers takeover fears fired out by Mean Brigade as panicked Hotline gripped by feeder club claim

The Ibrox faithful are hoping the club’s impending American revolution will make Rangers great again.

But Billy Barry, Dundee, isn’t so sure the consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and the San Francisco 49ers’ soccer side gig is guaranteed to be the money-spinning saviour the Light Blues legions are hoping for.

He said: “If I was a Rangers fan, I would be very, VERY worried about the 49ers takeover.

“Let's be honest here, where are the owners going to put their hard earned cash into - a Leeds team who have been promoted to the best, most financially-rewarding league in European football, or to another team who are literally years and millions of pounds behind their bitterest rivals?

“Also, who will be the feeder club to who? Surely as soon as Rangers sign somebody who might be of any worth, he'll be off to Leeds in a heartbeat?”

But John Spence has every confidence in the men preparing to sweep up the Marble Staircase, saying: “In 1986, Rangers were in the doldrums, trailing not only Celtic but Aberdeen and Dundee United as well.

“But a rejuvenated board appointed and backed Graeme Souness as boss. He brought in Walter Smith … and the rest is history.

"We attracted top quality players, won nine in a row, and basically dominated Scottish football for two decades.

"Almost 40 years later and we're facing a similar, probably bigger, dilemma, as Celtic stroll unchallenged to their 13th title in 14 years.

“The new owners need to show the same ambition as in the club did in the mid 80s, appoint someone of real substance and back him accordingly.

“Then we can get back providing proper opposition, the way it should be.”

That’s for the future but in the here and now, Rangers remain a distant 17 points behind newly crowned champions
