The 14,000-seater South Stand was open to lucky supporters successful in a ballot for the first time and the Premier League side will hope the revamped site will take the club up a level with increased revenue from the impressive new arena.

As fate would have it, a Liverpool fan notched the first-ever goal at the new stadium and the youngster couldn't resist the chance to milk his moment in the limelight. Latics kid Harrison Rimmer ruffled feathers by celebrating his early opener with six fingers up to the crowd, referencing the Reds' six Champions League titles. Cole Simms then doubled the visitors' lead before Ray Roberts netted a late consolation penalty, making history by becoming the first Everton player to score at their new home.
