German media ask Celtic title winner 'aren’t Bayern Munich already through' and his answer shuts down arrogance

Andreas Hinkel was asked by German media if Bayern are 'already through' in a cocky question ahead of the Champions League return.

The former Celtic defender was speaking in his homeland as Brendan Rodgers and his troops bid to cause a huge upset in the backyard of the Bundesliga giants and advance to the last 16. The tie sits 2-1 in favour of the Euro heavyweights after Michael Olise and Harry Kane struck at Parkhead last midweek, with Daizen Maeda giving the Scottish champions hope with a late goal. Callum McGregor and Co did push for that leveller and gave Bayern a few scary moments in the final stages.

It is a second meeting in just six days, and Hinkel knows his old club will need an 'absolutely perfect day' to advance in Bavaria while lots would have to go WRONG for Vincent Kompany's men.

Asked by German media outlet Frankfurter Neue Presse, 'Mr Hinkel, aren't Bayern already through after the 2-1 win at Celtic Park?', he replied: "I said before the first leg that Bayern were the clear favourites. That hasn't really changed after the result. Celtic have a good team - but a lot would have to happen for things to go wrong for Bayern."

He added: "I don't know if Celtic can learn much from a home game between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern. As I said, Bayern are the clear favourites. From Celtic's point of view, they need the absolutely perfect day to advance. They would have to be top defensively, use their counterattacks and also have the necessary luck in the game."
