3 things we clearly learnt about Luton Town after their 2-1 victory v Bristol City

Luton Town made even more strides towards the play-off positions after securing a 2-1 victory over Bristol City at Kenilworth Road last night. 

The Hatters made it a hat-trick of home wins over the Robins since returning to England’s second-tier, although, it was not one of their better displays. 

Nathan Jones’ side spent most of the first half second best and were struggling to keep possession against a Bristol City side who were benefitting from the six changes Jones made to the starting XI. 

However, the Hatters showed grit and determination, with James Bree displaying two moments of quality to edge a victory.

Here, we take a look at three things we learnt about the Hatters during last night’s win…

Three points is three points 

Winning all three points was vital for the Hatters last night as they try to take advantage of the games in hand they have on the teams above them. 

It was not pretty for most of the night, however, winning when not at your best can be a good sign for a club chasing an objective at this stage of the season. 

It is a result that has taken the Hatters to within six points of the much-desired play-off positions, with Jones’ side possessing two games in hand on Huddersfield Town, the current occupiers of sixth place. 

Goals win games

Last season, Luton scored 41 in their 46 league matches, and with just 26 games gone this time around, the Hatters are just three shy of last season’s total. 

This turnaround in goals scored is made even more impressive when considering the fact that Luton saw top scorer James Collins depart in the summer.

Adding athleticism was a key point for Jones in the summer and the decision to switch up the playing style at times has certainly reaped its rewards.
