3 things we clearly learnt about Huddersfield Town after their 2-1 defeat v Nottingham Forest
Huddersfield Town were knocked out of the FA Cup last night following a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Tom Lees had headed Carlos Corberan’s side into a first-half lead, but Sam Surridge and Ryan Yates quickly responded for the Reds, who now face Liverpool in the quarter-finals.
Town now have full focus back on the Championship and are looking to cash-in on a promising position in the league table – the Terriers currently sit second in the division.
Focus will swiftly switch to Friday night’s trip to West Brom, but in the meantime there’s a chance to reflect on an opportunity missed in the FA Cup.
We take a look at a couple of talking points here:
Is Tom Lees playing the best football of his career?
The 31-year-old is approaching 550 career appearances, but you could certainly argue that this is some of the best football Lees has played in his career.
He broke through with outstanding success at Leeds, whilst he played a big part in Sheffield Wednesday flirting with the Premier League during his time at Hillsborough.
However, his impact at Huddersfield has been so impressive. And, what makes it that bit more impressive is that nobody really saw it coming when he arrived on a free transfer.
Last night, Lees scored his fifth goal of the season as he converted Danel Sinani’s corner on 13 minutes. That’s his third goal in two games, with the centre-back’s set-piece presence a real weapon for Corberan.
It’s not just the goals, though, with Lees winning plenty of his defensive duels and setting an example in either a back-three or back-four.
Huddersfield are benefitting massively from Lees’ experience and defensive nous and, although they didn’t win this game, it was another evening where you have to praise the recruitment
