2023 MLB draft recaps: Every American League team's top picks - ESPN

After analyzing every National League class on Thursday, it's time to turn our attention to how each American League team fared in the 2023 MLB draft.

The AL had three of the top five picks, highlighted by the Detroit Tigers selecting high schooler Max Clark at No. 3 overall and the Texas Rangers immediately following that pick by selecting Florida outfielder Wyatt Langford.

Baltimore Orioles

As I covered in my initial draft takeaways, the Orioles appeared to shift their focus in this draft to fit where the team is right now, even if the actual behind-the-scenes adjustment might have been more subtle. After years of targeting position players only and leaning into power-first profiles with as much athleticism as was available, the O's took three pitchers in the top 118 picks in Jackson Baumeister (68), Kiefer Lord (69) and Levi Wells (167) along with a speed merchant with their first pick in Enrique Bradfield (12).

Bradfield isn't the typical boring college pick in that he has top-of-the-line 80-grade speed, is also 80-grade on the bases, and if he isn't 80-grade in center field then he's a 70. He can make contact at an above-average rate and make the most of his speed, but his power is more in the 5-10 homers and hopefully lots of gappers type of hitter. Third-rounder Tavian Josenberger (122) and 10th-rounder Matthew Etzel (230) are somewhere between Bradfield and the O's typical type, as plus runners and center fielders with more well-rounded offensive skill sets after both
