£10m Celtic deal a 'top priority' for Postecoglou at Parkhead

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has made signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis one of his ‘top priorities’, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Carter-Vickers joined the Hoops on a season-long loan from Spurs on deadline day of last summer’s transfer window and he has gone on to become a key member of Postecoglou’s side.

According to the Daily Record, Celtic are edging closer to agreeing a permanent deal worth up to £10million for Carter-Vickers.

The report suggests the eight-cap United States international is keen to remain in Glasgow thanks to enjoying the best spell of his career at Parkhead.

It has been revealed by The Scotsman that chief executive Michael Nicholson has been put in charge of brokering the switch despite owner Dermot Desmond previously describing Postecoglou as the ‘chairman of the board in terms of football recruitment’.

Should Carter-Vickers join Celtic and his fee reach the £10million mark, he would usurp former striker Odsonne Edouard as the club’s record signing.

Postecoglou has publicly revealed his intentions to secure the defender’s services on a permanent basis, with him admitting he hopes qualifying for the Champions League will tempt the 24-year-old to remain at the club.

O’Rourke believes Celtic are desperate to beat other potential suitors to Carter-Vickers’ signature and, as a result, are keen to complete the switch quickly.

The journalist feels Postecoglou has made acquiring the centre-half, who has already got his hands on the Scottish League Cup during his time north of the border, one of his key tasks heading into the summer.
