100% duels won: WBA's "invaluable" gem with 5 tackles was Bruce's shining light v NFFC - opinion

West Bromwich Albion added another disappointing result to their tally for the season as they fell to a 4-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest last night.

With 20 minutes on the clock, things were already looking bleak for Steve Bruce’s side, as they were 1-0 down and had Darnell Furlong sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

The Baggies went in at halftime 3-0 down after Ryan Yates and Jack Colback got their names on the scoresheet.

As the match drew to a close, Sam Surridge put the final nail in West Brom’s coffin by adding a fourth goal in injury time to add more misery to the Baggies’ night.

Despite the disheartening result in what has been a difficult season for the Midlands club, one player that was a shining light for the Baggies on this occasion was club captain Jake Livermore.

Having played through the entire 90 minutes, the midfielder had 50 touches of the ball in total and ended up making 22 passes with one key pass and one long ball as well as completing one dribble.

However, it was more to do with what the Englishman did off the ball that made him stand out.

The 32-year-old, who has previously been described as “invaluable” by Kevin Phillips, won 100% of the duels he was involved in and also made five tackles, two interceptions, two clearances and blocked two shots.

He also got through the whole match without being dribbled past by an opponent, which is impressive considering how Forest had 70% possession.

Even though the Baggies ended up conceding four goals on the night, if it weren’t for Livermore, it could have been more.

This display ultimately earned the veteran an overall performance rating of 7.3/10 from SofaScore, comfortably making him the highest-rated West Brom player on the day.
