England men's assistant coach Paul Collingwood has been appointed interim head coach for next month's three-match Test tour of the Caribbean. Collingwood, who took charge of England's T20 tour of the West Indies last month, is currently taking a break in Barbados before joining the touring party when they arrive in Antigua on 25 February. "I am genuinely excited to be leading the Test team for the tour of the Caribbean. I can't wait to get started. Having a challenging Test series against the West Indies straight off the back of the Ashes disappointment gives us a chance from now to reset and rebuild," Collingwood said in an official release.
The Indian U-19 team led by Yash Dhull won the 2022 ICC U19 World Cup in Antigua on Sunday, after beating England by 4 wickets. It was a record-extending 5th title for India as the team went unbeaten through the tournament to script history. All-rounder Raj Bara was adjudged player of the match in the final for picking up a five-wicket haul and playing a crucial knock in the middle order in a tense chase. Dhull, who scored a century in the semi-final against the formidable Australian side, led the team with aplomb and even overcame a bout with Covid-19 during the tournament. Vice-captain Shaik Rasheed scored half-centuries in the semi-final and final to stamp his class too.
India beat England in the final to lift the U19 World Cup for a record-extending fifth time on February 5. There were many notable performances throughout the tournament from the Yash Dhull-led side. The batting display of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Shaik Rasheed, Yash Dhull, all-round performances from Raj Bawa, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, fine efforts with the ball from Vicky Ostwal and Ravi Kumar gave a clear indications that Indian cricket's future is bright. Speaking on the performances of the young Indian boys in the recently-concluded U19 World Cup, former India chairman of selectors MSK Prasad said right-handed batter Shaik Rasheed can be the one for the future. Prasad even went on to add that Rasheed can be India's "future No. 3" in both red and white-ball cricket.
Former all-rounder Paul Collingwood will take charge of England's Test tour of the West Indies next month after being installed as interim head coach, cricket chiefs announced on Monday.
Jason Holder could well turn out to be one of the most expensive buys at this edition of Indian Premier League's mega-auction with Royal Challengers Bangalore expected to bid heavily for him. If sources privy to RCB's auction strategy are to be believed, the franchise that has Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj in its ranks as retained players, are likely to bid up till Rs 12 crore because of his multiple skill-sets, which is a rarity in this format. "Ben Stokes isn't available, Hardik Pandya and Marcus Stoinis are taken. Mitchell Marsh you never know whether he can survive a full IPL with his injury prone career, Holder has been phenomenal if one looks at his record. RCB will like to go the distance as some others will also pitch in," a source close to franchise told PTI on conditions of anonymity. It is understood that RCB, who have Rs 57 crore in their auction purse are interested about three players including Holder, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu and young ex-Rajasthan Royals turk Riyan Parag.
