It's been nearly a decade since Team India last won an ICC event. Since MS Dhoni led the team to a Champions Trophy triumph in 2013, the side has lost four ICC finals, and have bowed out in the semi-finals on as many occasions.

While Virat Kohli managed to take the team to new heights in Test cricket, the star batter failed to guide the team to an ICC triumph, since taking over the reigns from Dhoni.

The same has been the case under current skipper Rohit Sharma, under whom the team crashed out in the semi-finals during the T20 World Cup last year.

Earlier this month, India also lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final to Australia. Despite the success in bilateral events, the search for the elusive ICC trophy goes on.

'Fab 4' features the likes of Australia opener Steve Smith, former England skipper Joe Root, New Zealand batter Kane Williamson, and star India batter Virat Kohli. Chopra stated that looking at the current situation, Kohli should not be named in 'Fab 4'.
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who turned 51 on Saturday, has explained why Team India struggle to win knockout matches of major events. India have not won a major ICC trophy since 2013 when the MS Dhoni-led side had won the Champions Trophy in England. Since then, the team has lost four finals, and have bowed out in the semi-final on as many occasions. In an interview, Ganguly said that the reason behind India's failures is due to lack of "execution" rather than "mental pressure".
Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are legends of world cricket. While the former is still active as an international player, the latter called time on his career at the highest level in 2020. Both the players are part of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore while Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to their fifth title in 2023. Kohli and Dhoni both enjoy a massive fan following. It is worth noting that the two players are among the highest earning athletes in the world.

Known for charismatic captaincy and blistering knocks, Dhoni is worshipped by the fans for his major contributions in the field of cricket. The social media was flooded with posts and wishes from fans and former cricketers for Dhoni. One of the most prolific batters from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, Rinku Singh found no place in the Indian squad as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) announced the squad for the T20I series against West Indies. Rinku, who finished the IPL campaign for Kolkata Knight Riders with 474 runs to his name at an average of 59.25 and a strike-rate of 149.52, was expected to be rewarded for his heroics but the selectors had other ideas.
The World Test Championship final is always slated after two months of IPL and there is a school of thought that BCCI should speak to IPL franchises in order to monitor workload of players. Former BCCI president and ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly, who has been on both sides of the fence feels it is not a practical solution. "I don't agree with this theory. Ajinkya Rahane also played IPL and he played very well during IPL and World Test Championship final. So I don't believe in this theory. Some of the Australian boys (Cameron Green, David Warner), played well in IPL also and did well in World Test Championship," Ganguly told PTI.
