Rohit Sharma's barren run with willow continued as Chennai Super Kings broke a 13-year-old home jinx against Mumbai Indians with an easy six-wicket victory in an IPL match, in Chepauk on Saturday. The Indian skipper's horrid run in IPL since last edition continued as he failed to trouble the scorer for the second match in succession with MI scoring a below par 139 for 8 against an inspired performance from the CSK pace and seam troika of Deepak Chahar (2/18 in 4 overs), Man of the match Matheesha Pathirana (3/15 in 4 overs) and Tushar Deshpande (2/25 in 4 overs).
MS Dhoni is considered to be one of the best captains in world cricket but the Chennai Super Kings skipper revealed that not all of his decisions are always followed without any resistance. During the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Mumbai Indians, Dhoni wanted to bat first keeping the conditions in mind but he was completely overruled by the team management who were in favour of bowling. Dhoni had to relent and he decided to bowl first after winning the toss. It turned out to be the right ball as his side went on to win the match quite comfortably at the Chepauk Stadium.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) look to get back to winning ways when they take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Wednesday. After suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time this season, CSK's form has dipped. However, the MS Dhoni-led side's ability to bounce back can never be underestimated. With the tactical acumen of Dhoni playing a vital role in most of their victories this season, the former India captain could exploit the situation once again. Notably, CSK had won the reverse fixture by 12 runs in Chennai.
Punjab Kings sealed a stunning four-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings with Sikandar Raza holding his nerve to knock off the required three runs off the final ball in a tense Indian Premier League match at Chepauk on Sunday. Chasing 201 for a win, Punjab needed nine runs from the final over bowled by Matheesha Pathirana who conceded just two from the first three deliveries. But Raza remained calm under immense pressure, scoring two runs each from the next two deliveries.
Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left ruing the four-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings in their own den, saying the bowlers need to be more aware of the situation and also indicated that the execution was probably "bad". CSK had a good chance of victory after posting 200 for four at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, thanks chiefly to another Devon Conway special of unbeaten 92, but the Shikhar Dhawan-led side hit the winning runs off the last ball to silence the yellow brigade on Sunday. "We lost it in a couple of overs in the middle. You need to be aware what you need to bowl and be clear because the batters will be going for it (big hits). (Matheesha) Pathirana bowled well but other than that, we need to see if the plans were wrong or the execution was bad," said Dhoni.
Punjab Kings pulled off a thrilling chase of 201 against Chennai Super Kings and registered their fifth win of IPL 2023 on Sunday. Asked to bowl first, PBKS conceded 200/4 in 20 overs, courtesy of the unbeaten 92-run knock from Devon Conway. Later, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side struggled a bit but eventually found their way out after Sikandar Raza smashed the winning three runs on the last ball of the match. Apart from such a thrilling encounter, one thing which grabbed a lot of attention was a cheeky stumping CSK skipper MS Dhoni to dismiss Prabhsimran Singh.
