Stirling Uni 2 Airdrie 3: Rhys McCabe wonderstrike helps Diamonds pass student test in SPFL Trust Trophy

Airdrie were given a tough examination by Stirling University but came up with all the right answers to qualify for the fourth round of the SPFL Trust Trophy - thanks, in part, to a goal of the season contender from player-boss Rhys McCabe.

Three divisions seperate the two sides in the Scottish football pyramid and the Students certainly rose to the occasion against their Championship visitors at Forthbank.

Chris Geddes' men took a shock lead in 19 minutes when Alex Jeanes did well on the right to find space for a cross, and his low delivery was swept home at the back post by Ciaran McAninch.

That shook Airdrie into action and two goals in the space of two minutes turned the game on its head. In 35 minutes they pulled level when Adam Frizzell did well to hold off his marker and set O'Connor racing through on goal.
