The lack of all-rounders in the Indian cricket team has been highlighted by many over the years. Team India's struggles at ICC events over the last decade has primarily been due to the absence of multiple genuine all-round options.

However, the scenario is changing, with many outright batters trying to sharpen their skills with the ball. Shreyas Iyer is one such player.

Not part of Team India's T20I and Test setup at present, Iyer was spotting adding the skill of bowling to his resume in the Buchi Babu tournament match between Mumbai and TNCA XI.

Iyer, who also captained the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the Indian Premier League 2024 title this year, bowled in a quite similar fashion to his IPL teammate Sunil Narine.

Star India batter Shreyas Iyer is currently not in the scheme of things, as far as Test cricket is concerned. Iyer, who was not picked by the selectors for the 1st Test against Bangladesh, has endured a torrid run in the ongoing Duleep Trophy scoring just 104 runs in four innings. The batter has fallen behind in the pecking order, with youngsters like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel impressing in the whites against England earlier this year. With Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul also part of the squad for the series opener, Iyer's form in the Duleep Trophy has further dented his hopes of making a Test comeback any time soon.
India take on Bangladesh in the first Test encounter at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai starting Thursday. The Rohit Sharma-led side will return to action after more than a month-long break and questions remain over what team composition India will go with in this game. According to a report by Press Trust Of India (PTI), head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to go with three spinners - Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. That means Axar Patel will miss out of selection. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be the pacers in the encounter.
Star India batter Virat Kohli will be having some milestones to unlock as he prepares for the first Test against Bangladesh at Chennai, with an aim to overtake his peers Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson's recent success in the longest format. The two-match series between India and Bangladesh will kick off on September 19 in Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Meanwhile, the second long-format game will begin on September 27 in Kanpur. In his first Test assignment, head coach Gautam Gambhir will be keen on securing a series win.

As the Indian cricket team gears up for the Test series opener against Bangladesh, starting September 19, a new strategic call seems to be in line. India head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma looked at a few experiments in the nets, but the one that particularly caught the eye was the decision to have Yashasvi Jaiswal bowl leg spin. Jaiswal, who has also taken the opener's role in Tests like fish takes to water, also seemed serious about spin bowling, a skill that would strengthen his position in the team, not just in Tests but other formats as well.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir will push for an aggressive approach and will not allow the opposition to take the initiative in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, feels former batter Ajay Jadeja. India host Bangladesh for a two-match Test series beginning in Chennai from September 19, to be followed by three T20Is. "It is very clear, his approach is aggressive. One thing is sure, there will never be a dull moment with him around, he will always try something. He will do what he believes," Jadeja told reporters when asked about the Indian team's approach under Gambhir during the upcoming series.
