Shikhar Dhawan Creates History, Becomes Second Batter Ever To Claim Massive IPL Feat

Shikhar Dhawan produced a special performance but fell agonisingly close to a well-deserved century during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.

Dhawan held his own while wickets continued to tumble on the other end, and he finished on 99 off 66 deliveries with the help of 12 fours and five sixes.

In the process, Dhawan became the second batter ever in history to bat with all his other teammates during a single IPL innings.

The only other person to achieve this feat was Parthiv Patel for Chennai Super Kings back in 2019. This was after spinner Mayank Markande did the star turn with figures of 4 for 15 to leave Punjab Kings reeling at 88 for nine in the 15th over.

Chennai Super Kings will head into the IPL match against Punjab Kings as favourites with spin bowlers expected to play a huge role in the home side's scheme of things, on Sunday. Both teams head into the game on the back of defeats in their previous matches. While CSK fell short by 32 runs against Rajasthan Royals, PBKS lost to Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs. CSK, however, will be happy to return to home comforts, where spin is king and their shrewd captain M S Dhoni will look to strangle the PBKS batters. A high-flying CSK was ambushed in Jaipur as the batters came up short, chasing 203 for victory against the Royals.
Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan explained that his plan to play with an extra bowler was one of the major reasons for their 56-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Punjab Kings decided to bowl first with seven bowling options at their disposal. But in the end, they ended up conceding 257/5 runs. Punjab had several pace bowlers but they missed a spinner. "We gave away too many runs. I felt that it (ball) didn't come on quickly to the bat and it went straight to the fielder (on his dismissal). I felt my strategy to play with the extra bowler backfired. We missed a spinner today. It's a learning for me."
Punjab Kings will have to wait for another two to three days on the availability of regular captain Shikhar Dhawan, which puts him a doubtful starter for Saturday's clash against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Dhawan sustained a shoulder injury during Punjab Kings' match against Gujarat Titans on April 13. Despite missing two matches since then, he is still among the top five most prolific batters this season with 233 runs in four matches at 116.50.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) would be sweating over skipper Shikhar Dhawan's injury at a time when they need all their firepower against an extremely tough but luckless Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Thursday. Dhawan, 37, who is one of the bright spots in the PBKS team, was ruled out against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 15 in Lucknow due to a shoulder injury and England all-rounder Sam Curran marshalled the side during their two-wicket win at the Ekana Stadium.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders saw history being made as Arjun Tendulkar made his debut for the 5-time champions. Since being first bought by the franchise in 2021, Arjun featured for MI for the first time in his career, following the footsteps of his father Sachin Tendulkar who played for the franchise from 2008 to 2010. But, it was not just the Sachin-Arjun pair that made history in the league on Sunday. Even the name of Duan Jansen, the South African pacer snapped up by Mumbai, went into history books.
Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of Punjab Kings' Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter against Lucknow Super Giants due to injury on Saturday. The PBKS skipper suffered a niggle during the last match against Gujarat Titans and he was replaced by Sam Curran as the captain. PBKS is at the sixth position in the points table with a total of four points and two wins and two losses in four matches. LSG is at the second position with six points, three wins and a loss in four matches. Atharva Taide makes his IPL debut with PBKS. Curran won the toss and opted to field at the Ekana Stadium.
