Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris has been rested for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand while spinner Shadab Khan has sustained an ankle injury, ruling him out of the squad.

Pakistan's chief selector Wahab Riaz confirmed the news of Shadab's injury and revealed that he will take at least "two weeks for rehab" and will be available after that.

Riaz added that Haris was rested since "we want to use our pool of players" in the upcoming series. Pakistan's chief selector also confirmed that pacer Naseem Shah has recovered from his injury.

But he was not selected since they didn't want to put an overload on the 20-year-old speedster. "Shadab is a very important member of Pakistan T20 cricket and he's a white-ball specialist.

Pakistan earlier this month announced the 17-member squad for the five-match T20I series in New Zealand. While talking about the team, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee consultant Kamran Akmal said that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been included as the senior players could not be rested for a tour like that of New Zealand. Meanwhile, Shadab Khan, who disappointed with just two wickets and 121 runs from six World Cup (50 overs) matches in November before injuring an ankle in domestic competition, was left out.
Australia's experienced left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc was "surprised" to see Pakistan's lack of pace in the first Test which was one of the most talked about points. Pakistan are quite restricted in terms of putting up a quality pace bowling line-up with Naseem Shah nursing an injury and Haris Rauf opting out of the Test series. Without experience, the majority of the burden fell on Shan Masood's deputy Shaheen Shah Afridi, but even he struggled to generate pace. "I think everyone was slightly surprised at the lower pace of the Pakistan bowlers, when you're generally used to some guys getting in the 150s [kph]. I don't think that pace is the be all and end all but it certainly plays a part and can help," Starc said, speaking to media as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.
