S’Eagles camp bubbles as fans caution against underrating Libya

The Super Eagles began intense preparation for Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya with most of the players invited for the tie participating in the exercise.Nigeria will host Libya in the first leg of a double header at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo on Friday and travel to Benghazi for the second leg of the tie on October 15.The Eagles’ camp opened on Sunday, but most of the players arrived on Monday following their club commitments in Europe at the weekend.Goalkeepers Amas Obasogie and Stanley Nwabali were among the early arrivals, joining the team in Ikot Ekpene.

And yesterday, seven more players joined the camp, bringing the total to nine.Victor Boniface, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Samuel Chukwueze, Benjamin Tanimu, Wilfred Ndidi, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru were part of the squad as at yesterday afternoon.

They were later joined by Maduka Okoye, Skipper William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Bruno Onyemaechi, Taiwo Awoniyi, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Alhassan Yusuf and Ola Aina.The Super Eagles were expected to hold their first training session at 5.00 p.m yesterday.

Following the players’ late arrival to the Ikot Ekpene camp, Some football fans cautioned Coach Augustine Eguavoen and his team against underrating Libya because of the reported division among the players and officials.The Libyans are said to be divided with majority of the regular players snubbing the call to represent their country.Some fans who spoke on a radio sports programme monitored in Lagos, yesterday, were of the opinion that the Libyan team may be looking for a way to catch Eguavoen and his players unawares.They warned the Super Eagles technical crew to focus on their training and
