Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell stunned Celtic with a 2-0 League Cup win for Ross County the last time he was at Parkhead as a boss, and hopes to use elements of that this afternoon.
Kettlewell was under pressure, having been told he had “a couple of games” to save his job, but goals from Ross Stewart and Alex Iacovitti gave the Staggies a lockdown win, with both buses needing a police escort out of Celtic Park as fans showed their fury.
Now with Motherwell, Kettlewell expects a far tamer affair, but hopes he can draw from that win back in November 2020. “I do take aspects of it,” he said. “We’re facing a completely different side of that team than I faced at that time, which was an amazing result a few years ago. “When you go to these big venues and play against these big teams, what has worked for you in the past, what can you draw on, and what comparisons can I make from the group of players that I know work with, that might be effective. “If you’ve had a plan that has worked before, I think it’s important that you don’t deviate too far from it, but use aspects that worked.” Kettlewell added: “I had been made aware at the time that I had a couple of games to save my own job, and going in there with that knowledge, I think you’ve got to thrive on it. “I don’t think there’s a more high pressure scenario than going to Celtic Park and being told you’ve got a couple of games to save your job – I relish a challenge and a bit of pressure.” Kettlewell says Motherwell have improved since he took over from Steven Hammell, and should go into the game with confidence.
