New boss Philippe Clement is still casting an eye over his Rangers’ squad and deciding who can do a job for him. But after two weeks as Ibrox gaffer he has already made up his mind on Jack Butland.
And the Belgian boss wants to build his new-look team around the 30-year-old keeper. Wherever he has been previously, Clement has relied on a strong personality between the sticks.
Not only does his goalie have to produce on the pitch, they need to be a big character off it as well. And in his time in charge of Rangers, he has been convinced Butland has all of those qualities.
The Englishman – signed from Crystal Palace on a free transfer in the summer – was outstanding in their 0-0 Europa League draw against Czech side Sparta Prague on Thursday night.
