Legendary South African batter AB De Villiers believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore are still missing a quality spinner even after the IPL 2024 Auction.

While reviewing RCB's performance in the auction, De Villiers pointed out that RCB released Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga ahead of the new season but they failed to buy a proper alternative who can prove to be a 'X factor'.

He also mentioned veteran India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who was released by RCB in 2022 and Gujarat Titans star Rashid Khan while making his point that spin bowling is a department which has been a problem for the franchise. "One or two incredible spinners I would say, X factor.

Spinners. We need a leg spinner like Rashid Khan. We got rid of Yuzvendra Chahal not long ago. We missed him over the last few years, I think.

Former South Africa batter and captain AB de Villiers has backed experienced India batters playing in the ICC T20 World Cup and said bringing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back for the T20Is after over a year is a "smart move". Star opener Rohit Sharma and batter Virat Kohli returned to India's T20I squad against Afghanistan with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday revealing a 16-player roster for a three-match T20I series starting on January 11.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made a return to T20I cricket as the Indian cricket team squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan was announced but a clear omission was Shreyas Iyer. Iyer had a good run of form in the Cricket World Cup 2023 and even took part in the ODI and Test series against South Africa. As a result, his exclusion from the squad against Afghanistan came as a surprise for some fans as well as experts. According to a report on Anandabazar Patrika, the selectors were not happy with his style of batting in the recently concluded Test series. The report further claimed that Shreyas' decision to take a holiday and not play Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai was not taken well by the team management.
Legendary Indian cricket team batter Krishnamachari Srikkanth believes that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be part of the T20 World Cup 2024 squad if they are available for selection. The two veteran cricketers have not played T20I cricket for quite some time and ahead of the T20I series against Afghanistan, a lot of questions have been asked about their possible inclusion. However, Srikkanth said that both of them will be looking to win the World Cup title and they cannot be ignored for the competition.
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma made a long-awaited return to the Indian T20I cricket team as he was named in the series against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the two big names who made a comeback into the format. Both players did not play a single T20I after the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, with both being included, speculation is rife that they are very much in the scheme of things for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The selectors have clearly gone for the status quo rather than addressing the elephant in the room by picking Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their first T20 series in 14 months. Will it have a bearing on India's chances in another T20 World Cup? Only time can tell. Having endured a heartbreak in the previous two editions of the T20 World Cup, the two greats of the game can't be faulted for wanting a final shot at glory in the format. But the same can't be said about the selectors, who picked a fresh bunch of players to take the team forward since the crushing semifinal loss to England in November 2022. Now that Rohit and Kohli have been picked for the home series against Afghanistan beginning on January 11, it is a given that the famed duo will be a part of India's squad for the ICC showpiece in the US and Caribbean in June.
Former captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday backed stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to feature in India's squad for the T20I World Cup in June. The duo, who have not featured in any T20I for about 14 months, have made themselves available for the sport's shortest format, and it remains to be seen if they are picked for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, beginning January 11 in Mohali. "Of course Rohit should captain the team in the T20I World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player, nothing will happen (to return after 14 months)," Ganguly added.
