On IPL 2025 Mega Auction Likely Dates, Reports Make Contradictory Claims

All 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) are set to finalise their list of player retentions. Reports have claimed that October 31st is the last day to submit the players retention list, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to host the IPL mega auction in the last week of November.

However, the BCCI is yet to make a formal announcement, as far as the date and venue are concerned. Having said that, two contradictory reports regarding the date and venue of the auction have emerged.

While Times of India (TOI) reported that the auction will take place on November 30. The IPL 2024 auction was held in Dubai last year, and the report claims "there is a possibility of the Indian cricket board hosting it in Dubai" once again.

With KL Rahul all but set to be released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the India star has been linked with a return to RCB, a franchise he started his IPL career with. Being a local boy, Rahul is undoubtedly a natural choice for the spot behind the stumps for the Royal Challengers. However, the auction dynamics don't make it easy for any franchise to go out and get a player of its choice. Yet, RCB dropped a massive hint ahead of the IPL retention announcements.
With the IPL 2025 mega auction retention deadline coming on October 31, all 10 IPL teams are set to reveal their list of retained and released players. The franchises are allowed to retain as many as six players, of which at least one has to be an uncapped Indian player. Lot of big names like KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant have been rumoured to be entering the auction pool. As a result, the franchises might offer lucrative contracts to players in order to lure them away from the auction table.
Gujarat Titans are likely to retain its captain, Shubman Gill, for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with star spinner Rashid Khan set to play under his wing, GT sources told ANI. With the IPL retention deadline for all ten franchises approaching briskly on Thursday, the rumour mill has been actively working about the players who could end up staying with their teams. With a mega auction on cards for the IPL 2025, GT is expected to retain Gill and build a strong team in their quest to lift the coveted IPL trophy once again.
Amid uncertainity over his playing future at Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni recently dropped a hint over his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With all 10 teams currently finalising their list of retained and released players ahead of the mega auction, Dhoni all but confirmed his intention to continue playing in the IPL. Responding to his remarks, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan also said that they are happy to see Dhoni being ready for another season of the IPL. Dhoni is set to have a meeting with the CSK officials ahead of the IPL retention deadline, which is October 31.
