IPL 2025 Retention: Shubman Gill Wanted By Teams In Auction, Report Reveals His Final Decision

Gujarat Titans are likely to retain its captain, Shubman Gill, for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with star spinner Rashid Khan set to play under his wing, GT sources told ANI.

With the IPL retention deadline for all ten franchises approaching briskly on Thursday, the rumour mill has been actively working about the players who could end up staying with their teams.

With a mega auction on cards for the IPL 2025, GT is expected to retain Gill and build a strong team in their quest to lift the coveted IPL trophy once again. "Shubman Gill to lead the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, and Rashid Khan will play under him.

Many big teams were eyeing him and were looking to have him in auction. Gill wants to stay loyal to GT and build a strong team," GT sources told ANI.

Shubman Gill was not named as Gujarat Titans' most expensive retention, with that honour going to Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The franchise also kept hold of two surprise uncapped Indian players. Gujarat Titans left everyone utterly impressed as they clinched the IPL title in their inaugural season in 2022. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, they went on to play the final in IPL 2023 but lost lost to Chennai Super Kings. However in 2024, Hardik left the Gujarat-based franchise to reunite with his old team Mumbai Indians and Shubman Gill took as the skipper of the team. In that season, GT failed to get through the playoffs. GT have now announced the names of their retained players for the upcoming mega auctions.
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has decided to take a pay cut and will be the second player retained by the IPL franchise ahead of the October 31 deadline. Gill led Titans for the first time this season and both he and the management are now keen to retain the core group of players. Uncapped hitters Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan are also expected to be retained by the franchise. "Shubman, Rashid and Sai will be retained by the franchise," said an IPL source. Gill, who is seen a future leader in the Indian cricket setup, had captained Titans for the first time earlier this year when the side finished eighth out of 10 teams.
